Shenandoah National Park - (Skyline Drive) 858.5 Miles - 2173 Elev

Easier to shimmy up & down

Back in the woods after a wonderful day off in Waynesboro, VA.

A very hiker friendly city - they have a volunteer group of 15 or more hat leave #'s at motels & visitor centers. The volunteers will pick hikers up at trail head and take you where you need or want to go - very nice!!

We needed to go to Outfitters (1.5 miles) out of town - that is not far - but it is our "O" hike day!
So we called Tom.........he picked us up and took us to outfitters - he also took us to a winery "Venita's Vineyard" - What a nice outing - it made me very homesick....not for Blue Ridge but for good old Cape in South Africa. We did some wine tasting and bought some for the trail - Thanks Tom! We ate twice at the Chinese buffet and it was so good. I got new tent - same design - newer model.

Thanks Chipmunk, Doug and Peggy for our care package! We confess - we have a few addictions - Coffee - Ginger Snaps - Orange slices - Tea - "Chocolates" (any kind). Everything was so good!

We did 7 miles out of town to the 1st shelter - Shenandoah National Park - another milestone on the trail. We crossed the Skyline a few times today - passed a lot of cell/radar towers - in front of these towers are a few tractor seats - looks cute but to much civilization in the woods. The shelter & campground is full- 7 men in shelter, 6 tents. Happy to be at this milestone - looking for to a few good days.

"Going to have lots of fun"
