Hamburg, PA - 1206.1 miles
5.4 miles
Patches still feeling good - no headache - the antibiotic works.
Today we received double trial magic by trail angels -
1.Went to Hamburg to resupply (+/- 3 miles to and from) - in the Appalachian pages that we use are #'s for shuttles and bus service (with the poor economy these services are also closed) - so we hiked on the Hwy with roadworks in process. The public bus service in Hamburg still works - we came up this road and here comes the bus - we just about jumped in front of it to get it to stop - it costs $1.60 per person (luxury). The bus driver told us when the bus will be at the market again - we have a few hours to shop. At Rite Aid a Grandma (Patricia) and Grandson (Elijah-7yrs) started talking with Patches - very nice lady - she even came to me and told me to have a good week. We shared our pictures with them and they left. We sent to Subway - standing in line - here she came and asked how we were getting back to the trail - she said they would take us. We told her thanks but we needed to do some shopping. "That is OK - I will wait for you" Thank you Patricia - we really appreciated it!
2.Half way up the mountain Patches realized he did not have his hat - we figured out that we left it in Rite Aid - called them - yes the hat is there - but they cannot mail it to him. We decided to send Patricia a postcard and ask if she would go to Rite Aid and get the hat and mail it here. When we arrived at the shelter we met some day hikers - a Biology Professor and students - talked with them and asked if they would mail the postcard to Patricia - they said they would - but they asked which Rite Aid? They left with the postcard and a few hours later here they came back with the hat. We did not get their names - but that was sure nice trail magic. We have met so many nice people on and off the trail.
Thanks to all that have helped us in any way!!
LIFE IS GOOD!!!
